Johnny Lee stopped ‘Looking for Love’ from country music fans years ago, as his popularity has always been high within the genre. Being a part of the soundtrack for the hit movie ‘Urban Cowboy’ certainly helped skyrocket his career but it was his voice and storytelling through lyrics that gave him staying power. The movie premiered in 1980 and 40 years later, Johnny Lee was still making albums and selling his classic country-style songs. He and the late, great Mickey Gilley teamed up for a tour promoting the anniversary of the soundtrack and movie.
Other Top 10 hits of Johnny Lee include “One In A Million,” “Bet Your Heart On Me,” “Cherokee Fiddle,” “Sounds Like Love,” “Hey Bartender,” “You Could’ve Heard a Heart Break” and more. In 2016, he released “You Ain’t Never Been to Texas” which contained 12 new titles.
New Milestones
This year marks two distinct anniversaries of Lee’s previous hits: the 45th anniversary of his Top 5 single, “This Time” and the 40th Anniversary of Top 10 Single “Sounds Like Love”.
“Country music has been my life for as long as I can remember,” shares Johnny Lee. “This year marks several milestone anniversaries for hit songs from throughout the years. “This Time” has always been a favorite of mine and I hope it is one of yours as well.’ In addition to looking back to his his previous hits that are still getting airtime today, Johnny Lee isn’t living in the past, as he is still creating present and future hits.
