5 Destinations to See the Mighty Oak Ridge Boys This Fall and Winter

As a child, hearing Elvira booming out of the radio speakers always brought a moment of happiness. I can still remember my grandpa’s good attempt at echoing the line that was most likely the essence of the song, the  famous ‘oom poppa, omm poppamow mow’ .  40 years have flown by, and this hit by the Oaks is still one of my favorites, and one that leads to some great memories with my grandpa. I’m clearly not alone, as this song resonated with so many others, and is clearly a multi-generational hit.

If you are like me, a fan of the Oak Ridge Boys, you might be wondering where you can catch the snappy ‘Elvira’ tune, along with all their other #1 hits. They will be in Nashville and Branson for multiple shows along with some one-stop shows this fall and winter. Here are 5 destinations where you can hear the Oaks live.

Branson

There is no wrong season to visit this Missouri city but Christmas time is the most magical. Millions of Christmas lights, a huge Christmas spirit throughout the town and the Oaks sets this tourist town apart from others. While in town to see the Oaks, consider some time at Silver Dollar City, the region’s premiere theme park. Christmas is done in style, and beyond. Musicals, parades and  hot chocolate with the all the works is just a bit of the wonder awaiting. Find out more about the park here.  FYI- the Christmas season begins November 1st, so there are four dates within the Christmas season. For those who like pumpkins, the fall festival in Branson and the theme park is just as much fun and ends on the 31st of October. Time it right and you can experience the best of both seasons.

Here are the dates for the Branson stop of the ORB Elvira 40 Tour:

  • Wednesday and Thursday, October 6th & 7th
  • Wednesday and Thursday, October 13 &14th
  • Wednesday and Thursday, October 20 & 21st
  • Wednesday and Thursday, November 3 & 4th
  • Wednesday and Thursday, November 10 & 11th

All shows in Branson will be at the Mansion Theatre. Find more info or order tickets here.

Nashville

The Grand Ole Opry, Wildhorse Saloon and so much music is just a simple summary of what Nashville, Tennessee offers. Beginning November 24th, the Oaks kick off their 31-show  Nashville residency within the Tennessee Ballroom.  Located within the Opryland Resort, this destination will absolutely provide a one-stop vacation. Arrive at this beautiful resort knowing  it provides all the entertainment, amenities, activities and dining options needed for a well-rounded stay. Let the valet park the vehicle and give it a small vacation of its own for the duration of  your stay. As for the entertainment, let me steer back to the Oaks.

The Oak Ridge Boys Christmas in Tennessee Dinner Show is not just a music show.  Prior to the Oaks taking the stage, enjoy a  scrumptious holiday meal to get into the Christmas spirit. Once the quartet takes the stage, you can expect ‘dessert’ in the way of past hits, current songs and plenty of Christmas carols and songs. While some dates offer two show times, the majority of the shows are set for 6pm. For ticket reservations or more info, visit this site.

north myrtle beach, South carolina

While there are two scheduled concerts for this city, only one is in 2021. If you can’t make it to their show on October16th,  just a few months down the road is another chance. April 9th, 2022 is the second concert set for the Alabama Theatre in North Myrtle Beach. Speaking of Myrtle Beach, there are plenty of activities and attractions that are just as amazing as a concert by the Oaks.  A few examples include Murder Mysteries, Dolphin Cruises and the  T_I_G_E_R_S_ Preservation Station

There is also the opportunity for carnival-style fun at Lulu’s Beach Arcade, a flight into the sky with the Sling Shot or just some relaxation on the sandy beaches.

Galveston, Texas

Galveston, oh Galveston… while it is unlikely the Oaks will cover that hit by Glen Campbell, the Oaks will surely be belting out all their new and classic hits during one of their two concerts. Scheduled for the evening of the cruise ending (see below), January 22nd has the Oaks set to take the stage at The Grand 1894 Opera House. Can’t make that show? Perhaps the second concert on the 23rd of January will work better for you.  Get a second helping of the hits by attending both nights.

A little about The Grand 1894 Opera House:

  • Quickly restored after hurricanes left their calling card in 1900 and 1915
  • One of the few remaining theatres of its era left in Texas
  • in 1993, The Grand received the title of ‘The Official Opera House in Texas’

fort lauderdale, Florida

This opportunity isn’t just to see the Oaks, or to spend time in just Fort Lauderdale. This is the ultimate country music event. The 2022 Country Music Cruise. We are talking the Oaks, Mickey Gilley, Billy Dean, John Schneider,  Sawyer Brown, Mark Chestnutt and so, so, so many more! Not one Elvis tribute artist, but many Elvis look-alikes will be on hand as well.  Set for January 15th-22nd, port of calls include Costa Maya, Cozumel and Half Moon Cay. The bad news is they are currently sold out but go ahead and get your name on the wait list in case a cabin becomes available.

Ready to see the Oaks today? Check out these two videos! One of their newest hits, ‘Love,Light, and Healing’ and the always-popular,  with a new sound, ‘Elvira’.
